Sagamix joins Kayf Tara at Overbury

Arc winner and rising jumps sire relocates to Britain

Sagamix, the undefeated Champion three-year-old of France in 1998 when he won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for trainer Andre Fabre, has relocated to Britain and will stand at Overbury Stud alongside Britain's champion jumps sire Kayf Tara, Bertolini and Proclamation.

The grey son of Linamix sired the French Stakes-winning jumper Wild Queen in his first crop, since when his total of jumps winners has risen to 28, including seven Black Type horses and 15 more placed – all from only 60 runners so far. His three stores to sell in Britain have sold for £28,000 and £18,000 at Doncaster and £30,000 at Ascot. Sagamix's fee will be £2,500 October 1st, Special Live Foal.

Sagamix, who also has many flat winners including numerous Group performers, is excelling with his first National Hunt runners in Britain and Ireland. Willie Mullins has the hugely promising dual Bumper winner Flat Out; Seasonselite, trained by Venetia Williams, has won on her only start; Nicky Henderson's Zazamix won on his debut at Newbury; and Paul Nicholls has the three-year-old recruit from the flat Royal Mix, a winner at Deauville who is slated to make his hurdling debut at Newbury on Friday.

Leading trainers have been quick to support Sagamix's relocation. Paul Nicholls said, 'I’ve already bought a few by Sagamix, and Royal Mix is particularly exciting. They are quality horses, and I wouldn’t hesitate to consider others by the sire.' Nicky Henderson praised Zazamix's 'scope and quality': 'He jumps extremely well and has huge potential.' Paul Webber, who purchased his Sagamix for £28,000, said, 'He's 17 hands, and is a very good-looking, scopey individual. Correct with a good outlook and temperament. He is a chaser in the making but should win over hurdles first. I would certainly try to buy another Sagamix.'

Simon Sweeting, manager of Overbury Stud, said, 'Sagamix is siring tough, sound horses with class, stamina and the natural ability to jump. It's extremely encouraging that so many leading trainers are already investing in his stock, and doing so well with them. He's got a wonderful future as a jumps stallion and is a very welcome addition to the Overbury roster.'
