Suits Me gains Group place in Winter Derby

22/03/10 - Bertolini’s game son finishes in the money for the 29th time; Proclamation’s first runners this weekend

The admirable Suits Me posted yet another in the G3 Winter Derby at Lingfield on Saturday, finishing just three-quarters of a length behind Tranquil Tiger for his first placing at Group level.

The Tom Tate-trained seven-year-old won the Listed Winter Open Stakes at the same track last season and, in 52 outings has rarely run a bad race, with 11 victories and 18 placed efforts to his name, including four in Listed races.

There were a further three winners for Bertolini in Australia and New Zealand this week and Suits Me could be back in action again this weekend as he is entered in the Listed Magnolia Stakes at Kempton while Group Three winner Prime Defender is set to run in the Listed Cammidge Trophy. On Sunday, What About Me, a winner on debut as a two-year-old and fourth in last year’s G3 Coolmore Sprint Stakes, starts out on the path to Classic glory with a run in the G3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes.

This weekend also marks the first runners for Overbury stallion Proclamation. He has two entries in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster, the Tom Dascombe-trained Mirror Lad, and the filly Bold Deceiver, trained by Phil McEntee and bred here at Overbury Stud.
