Cryptic books Cheltenham place with third win

Kayf Tara six-year-old Cryptic made it three wins from five runs under rules with a convincing victory at Wincanton on 31 January. He will now be aimed at the Cheltenham Festival and holds entries in the Pertemps Final and three-mile novice hurdle. Earth Planet, who won a Bumper on his debut and is also by Kayf Tara, was second and has now been placed five times.

Like Kornati Kid, who was one of Kayf Tara’s trio of winners the previous day, Cryptic runs in the colours of Diana Whateley from the Philip Hobbs yard. It is the second time he has beaten Earth Planet, who was also runner-up to him at Wincanton in November with Kornati Kid, now a dual scorer, in third. Cryptic is out of the Persian Heights mare Persian Symphony, who won over nine and 12 furlongs when trained in Ireland by Noel Meade. Kayf Tara is now the sire of 21 individual winners of 32 races to date this jumps season.
