Alfie Sherrin tops Doncaster

04/08/10 - Kayf Tara gelding is the pick on day one of the DBS August Sale

Alfie Sherrin, one of the jumpers in the dispersal from Harry Findlay and Paul Barber, topped the opening session of Doncaster’s August Sale when selling for £110,000 to Jonjo O’Neill. Former trainer Paul Nicholls tried to retain the seven-year-old, who has won three of his five races, but had to give sway to O’Neill, not present at the sale but bidding via Michael White of DBS.

Bred by Mrs J L Egan, Alfie Sherrin, an eye-catching dark bay out of the Be My Native mare Mandys Native, won his bumper on debut at Chepstow in November 2008 before following up with two hurdles victories and a third place in the Listed Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle. He is currently rated 147.

Also among the top lots on the first day was Tobeluckyenough, a five-year-old son of Kayf Tara, who was snapped up by Aiden Murphy for £75,000 on behalf of Kim Bailey. The gelding won a three-mile point-to-point in March when trained in Ireland by Liam Burke and is out of the unraced Rock City mare Singing Citystreet.
