Tafika impresses at Leicester

02/02/11 – Kayf Tara gelding lands maiden chase in style

Seven-year-old Kayf Tara gelding Tafika posted a faultless round of jumping when running out the nine-length winner of Leicester's Silver Bell Maiden Chase on Wednesday. He had been sent off as the odds-on favourite after finishing second at the course to Three Chords on his last start.

Bred by Diana Webber and trained by her son Paul, Tafika is a grandson of the family’s decent staying chaser Auntie Dot, who was bred, owned and trained by the late John Webber, for whom she was third in the 1991 Grand National. Tafika is the first foal of her unraced daughter Shiwa, by Bustino.

Looking every bit the stayer on only his seventh start, the substantial gelding holds an entry for the four-mile National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
