First mare scanned in foal to Schiaparelli

Press release, 7 March 2011

The five-time G1 winner Schiaparelli, who is standing his first season at Overbury Stud, had his first mare scanned in foal on Sunday.

The young Desert Story mare Desiree, who hails from the family of New Zealand’s champion filly La Mer, was the first to be covered by the eight-year-old son of Monsun and has duly returned a positive test.

Schiaparelli has aroused plenty of interest from jumps breeders in Britain and Ireland and has a promising array of mares booked to him in 2011. These include G1 hurdler Megastar’s full-sister Megasue, a multiple winner by Kayf Tara; El Tigress, a half-sister to G2-winning hurdler El Dancer and the dam of G1 hurdler and chaser Captain Cee Bee; and Royal Keel, a half-sister to Relkeel.

One of four Black-Type performers from the Old Vic mare Sacarina, Schiaparelli won the German Derby among his 12 career victories, which also included the G1 Preis Von Europa, G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club twice, G2 Goodwood Cup and G2 Prix Kergorlay.

Schiaparelli’s full-brother Samum, also a German Derby winner, is already enjoying a successful stud career in his native country where his offspring include Classic winner Kamsin, G1 winner Baila Me and Derby runner-up Sordino.
