Carole’s Legacy covered by Kayf Tara

26/04/11 - Paul Murphy’s tough mare the latest top-class jumper to join the Overbury resident’s book

In four seasons Carole’s Legacy made 18 appearances on the racecourse, winning nine races, finishing second on seven occasions and earning black type from eight of those starts. Bred and raced by Paul Murphy, the seven-year-old earned £178, 547.

She won the Listed mares’ bumper at Aintree on only her second outing and it was at the Liverpool venue that she made her final appearance on the racecourse, posting arguably her best run when finishing runner-up to Nacarat in the G1 Totesport Bowl, beating the Gold Cup and dual Hennessy hero Denman.

Carole’s Legacy’s next outing was to Overbury Stud to visit Kayf Tara, who covered her dam Carole’s Crusader in 2001 with the result being another Aintree specialist, Mad Max, who won last year’s G2 Manifesto Novices’ Chase at the Grand National meeting.

Having been Champion British-based national Hunt sire two years in a row, it’s hardly a surprise that Kayf Tara is attracting such high-class jumping mares. Followers of the Racing Post’s Born To Run series will know that the three-time Cleeve Hurdle winner Lady Rebecca recently produced a filly by him, and Welsh National winner L’Aventure has also produced a filly and returns to Kayf Tara again this year.

Salamaite, the dam of French-bred Champion Bumper winner Cheltenian is another to have been covered by Kayf Tara in recent weeks.
