Bannock burns to Listed success

08/10/11 – Stakes-winning Bertolini two-year-old brings up a double for his sire on York’s Saturday card

Bannock, a May-foaled son of Bertolini, won the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York on Saturday, beating the G3-placed Miss Lahar by two lengths.

Bred by Darley and trained by Mark Johnston for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, the two-year-old colt is a son of the nine-furlong winner Laoub, by Red Ransom.

Rated 108 before his most recent victory, Bannock has now earned £56,081 in prize-money, having won three times and been placed in four of his nine starts, including finishing runner-up to the highly regarded Harbour Watch in the G2 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Also successful on the Knavesmire was Bertolini four-year-old Living It Large, who recorded his seventh career win and third of the season in the Coral.co.uk Stakes over five furlongs for young trainer Ed de Giles.

Bertolini is the sire of 14 stakes winners, including G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Donna Blini, and the Group 2 winners Prime Defender and NZ-bred Puttanesca.
