Black Type for Touch Of Irish 08/04/08

Touch Of Irish came close to being Kayf Tara’s fifth stakes winner of the season when finishing runner-up in Aintree’s G2 Champion Bumper on Grand National day.

The six-year-old has already claimed two wide-margin victories in bumpers this season and posted a superb effort, showing a good turn of foot to lead in the straight until being just out-pointed by the fast-finishing Honest John.

Earlier in the week,  Lily Tara proved last month’s victory was no fluke, adding another win to her record, this time at Wetherby in Tuesday’s 2m7f handicap hurdle. Also a member of Kayf Tara’s first crop, she was bred by The Low Flyers (Thoroughbreds) Ltd.

The Paul Nicholls-trained Earth Planet was another repeat scorer, winning by nine lengths at Wincanton under Ruby Walsh on Monday. In only eight starts, he has now finished in the money on six occasions. The gelding is one of only a handful of Kayf Tara’s current runners to carry the IRE suffix, though this is likely to change in years to come given the recent interest shown in Britain’s most exciting National Hunt prospect by Irish breeders.

This season, Kayf Tara is the sire of 29 individual winners of 48 races to date, including black type winners Venalmar,  Carruthers, Mad Max and Give It Time.
