Daughter of Bertolini wins the Indian 1,000 Guineas

Vijays Pride lands her third Group win in Hyderabad 19 November 2012

Vijays Pride, a daughter of Bertolini who was bought in utero at Goffs’ November Sale, recorded her third Group victory of the year when winning the G2 Golconda 1,000 Guineas at Hyderabad, India, on Sunday.

Her dam, the Red Ransom mare Designer Chic, was bought for €10,500 when carrying her in 2008 and was subsequently exported to India. In the same export group was Pescara, a daughter of Common Grounds, who was also in foal to Bertolini. Her subsequent filly foal was named Portia and finished runner-up to Vijays Pride in the G1 Fillies Champion Stakes at Bangalore in June. Vijays Pride, who was bred by Mebajeona Stud Farm, also won the G3 Hyderabad Fillies Champion Stakes in August.

It has been a good week for Bertolini’s daughters with his G1-winning Donna Blini, now a dual stakes-producing mare in Japan, having been responsible for the G1 Mile Championship-placed Donau Blue, who was beaten less than a length for third. Donau Blue, a four-year-old by Deep Impact, won the G3 Sekiya Kinen in August, while her three-year-old sister Gentildonna is the top distaffer of her generation in Japan having secured the Fillies’ Triple Crown with her victory in the G1 Shuka Sho in October.
