A cross to bear in mind

Two recent four-year-old debut bumper winners for Kayf Tara are out of daughters of Alflora 10 December 2012

Kayf Tara is currently lying in ninth place among the active National Hunt sires in Britain and Ireland with 21 winners to his credit this season.

Recent scorers include the first-time-out bumper winner Halo Moon, who won at Towcester on 4 December for Donald McCain and members of the Level Par Racing syndicate. The four-year-old gelding was bred by David Jenks from his homebred Alflora mare Fragrant Rose, who won two bumpers and three hurdle races when trained by Henrietta Knight. It is a cross which has also produced another recent winning bumper debutante, Agent Fedora, a four-year-old Kayf Tara filly out of Alflora’s daughter Flora Poste.

Securing his first victory on the same day and on the same card as Halo Moon was Billybo, who is trained by Tim Vaughan for Oceans Racing. Bred by Howard Barton Stud, Billybo’s pedigree represents another successful cross. Like the Grade 2-winning chaser Carruthers, he is by Kayf Tara out of an Executive Perk mare, his dam Pollys Perk being a half-sister to the Listed BGC Silver Cup winner and Grade 2-placed chaser Billyvoddan.
