Boxing Day double for Kayf Tara

Popular chaser Carruthers back in the winner’s enclosure after his eighth victory; Fahamore strikes for JP McManus 27 December 2012

With his half-brother Coneygree impressing many in two recent front-running wins, Carruthers ensured that he was back in the headlines on Boxing Day with a 15-length victory in the 3m2f handicap chase at Ffos Las.

As is his wont, the nine-year-old son of Kayf Tara made almost all of the running and produced a stylish effort to bring his tally of wins to eight, including last year’s Hennessy Gold Cup Chase at Newbury.

Carruthers, bred by the late Lord Oaksey, was the first foal of Plaid Maid (Executive Perk), who was voted TBA National Hunt Broodmare of the Year in June.

Correctly speaking, Fahamore’s win at Limerick came on St Stephen’s Day, the Irish name for Boxing Day. The five-year-old recorded his second victory for leading jumps owner JP McManus, winning the Guinness Handicap Hurdle by eight lengths.

The first foal of the dual-purpose winner Cool Spice (Karinga Bay), Fahamore was bred in Britain by Paul Brewer and was sold as a yearling for £35,000 at Doncaster.
