Kayf Tara at the double as April begins

Orangeaday and Tara Tavey in the winner’s enclosure on consecutive days 3 April 2013

Orangeaday was no fool when recording his first victory on 1 April in a hard-fought battle for the line in the Conditional Jockeys’ Hurdle at Huntingdon.

The Kayf Tara six-year-old provided a birthday winner for trainer Ben Case and became the third winner for his dam One Of Those Days (Soviet Lad). He was bred by Robin and Scarlett Knipe of Cobhall Court Stud.

The following day it was the turn of Tara Tavey to record her maiden victory in her first start in a handicap hurdle at Exeter. Bred by Chistopher Maye, she is out of the Roselier mare Slieve League and is owned and trained by Kevin Bishop, who has enjoyed a particularly good season with National Hunt mares on the track.

With a 29 per cent winners-to-runners strike rate, Kayf Tara maintains a decent position on the British and Irish jump sires’ table for 2012/13, currently lying in fifth place of all active sires and leading the British-based stallions.
