Trebles at the double for Kayf Tara

Britain’s leading National Hunt sire surges farther clear 13 April 2013

Following a new Grade 1 winner last Saturday, when Special Tiara landed the John Smith’s Maghull Novices’ Chase on Grand National day, Kayf Tara has enjoyed another six winners, courtesy of trebles on Thursday and Saturday.

Five-year-old mare Mickie got the ball rolling on Thursday with a 17-length victory in the Joy Minton Memorial Mares’ Novice Hurdle at Ludlow, the same venue that saw a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure for Andy Turnell’s talented Micheal Flips, who recorded his sixth victory in the 2m4f handicap chase.

Later that day at Wincanton, four-year-old Tea For Two made his racecourse debut a winning one when landing the bumper for Nick and Jane Williams.

Uttoxeter’s Saturday card saw another Kayf Tara double when Neltara notched a first success over hurdles in the 2m4f novice event for Claire Dyson and Rich Buddy battled home well to take the 3m handicap hurdle.

The second bumper winner of the week was Rafafie, who won at Stratford on just his second start for Susan Gardner. He is the third bumper winner this season by Kayf Tara out of an Alflora mare, the others being Agent Fedora and Halo Moon, while the other two bumper runners bred on this cross, Kayfleur and Redundant Man, have both been placed.

Kayf Tara’s strike-rate of winners to runners for the 2012/13 season has surged to 31 per cent and he is in fifth place in the table of all active National Hunt sires in Britain and Ireland.
