Strong demand for Kayf Tara stores at Derby Sale

Half-sister to Kicking King makes €100,000 29 June 2013

Henry de Bromhead, who trains Aintree Grade 1 winner Special Tiara, added another potential star by Kayf Tara to his stable on Friday when landing a half-sister to Gold Cup hero Kicking King for a single bid of €100,000 at Tattersalls Ireland though agent Mags O’Toole.

Offered by Michael Hickey’s Sunnyhill Stud, the three-year-old filly’s dam Fairy Blaze has bred seven winners from eight foals, including three black-type horses.

An encouragingly strong Derby Sale saw Kayf Tara well represented, with 17 of his offspring selling for an average of €37,235 and median €35,000.

The second-best price given for one of his store horses was also for a filly. Trainer Jimmy Mangan paid €70,000 for the daughter of the Ardross mare Fortune’s Girl, a winner on the Flat and over hurdles and fences. Consigned by Richard and Sally Aston’s Goldford Stud, she is a half-sister to four black type National Hunt performers.

Highflyer Bloodstock, principal buyers for trainers such as Nicky Henderson and Alan King, gave €60,000 and €42,000 for a pair of geldings, both three-year-olds, one of which was another Goldford offering and the other from the Jamestown Consignment.

Another agent to sign for a pair of Kayf Tara geldings was Charles Liverton, racing and bloodstock manager to Robin Geffen, who gave €35,000 for each.
