Mozoltov graduates to fences in style

Kayf Tara’s consistent performer now five wins from eight starts 15 December 2013

The Willie Mullins-trained Mozoltov made light work of his steeplechasing debut when cruising home to win the two-mile beginnners’ chase at Fairyhouse by seven and a half lengths on Saturday.

Owned by Gigginstown House Stud, who bought the seven-year-old from previous owner Martin Lynch in April for €170,000, Mozoltov has never finished out of the first three in eight races under rules, winning two bumpers and two hurdle races prior to facing the bigger obstacles. His biggest win to date came in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown in February.

Mozoltov is the first foal of the Rudimentary mare Fairmead Princess, who also has a yearling colt by Kayf Tara.

Eight-year-old Kayfrou added to Kayf Tara’s winners’ tally for the season on Friday when landing a handicap hurdle at Bangor, while Cantlow was runner-up for JP McManus in the Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup, the feature race of Cheltenham’s pre-Christmas meeting. Cantlow was following up on a good win at Newbury a fortnight earlier.

Kayf Tara is once again the leading British-based jumps sire and sits in fifth position overall of all active National Hunt sires in Britain and Ireland with 42 winners for the term.
