Kayf Tara tops first day of Derby Sale 30/06/08

A three-year-old Kayf Tara gelding fetched €160,000 when sharing top billing after the first day’s trade at Tattersalls Ireland’s Derby Sale.

The first foal of the unraced Broadsword mare That’s Minnie, described by purchaser Maragaret O’Toole as ‘a gorgeous invividual who really filled the eye’, was consigned by Abbey Stables.

O’Toole also signed for another Kayf Tara gelding earlier in the catalogue. Lot 194, out of three-time American-bred winner Squaw Talk (Gulch), was sold from the Goldford consignment for €82,000. He is a half-brother to two winners and his dam also has a yearling colt by Kayf Tara.

Top Irish jumps trainer Willie Mullins was the co-buyer of lot 120, from Castle View Stud, for €68,000. The three-year-old is out of the bumper-winning mare Princess Timon (Terimon).

All eight lots by Kayf Tara offered in part one of the sale were sold for an average of €58,875, an equivalent of more than 15 times his 2004 covering fee.
