Kayf Tara makes history with first century

Overbury Stud star becomes the first British National Hunt sire to pass the 100-win mark for the season
29 March 2014

Britain's four-time Champion jump sire Kayf Tara has become the first British National Hunt stallion ever to sire the winners of 100 races in a season.

He joins an elite corp of 12 Irish stallions stretching back to Strong Gale and Deep Run to have equalled his achievement in the last 25 years.

Another five winners this week, starting with the appropriately named Sign Of A Victory for Nicky Henderson at Newbury, took Kayf Tara’s seasonal tally of wins to 104 from 71 individual horses, with his nearest challenger in Britain being Midnight Legend on 61 wins.

Among Kayf Tara’s black-type performers for the season are the Grade 2 winners Mozoltov and Kayf Moss, Welsh National runner-up Hawkes Point, the tough and consistent mare Mickie, Rathlin, The Package and perennial favourite Carruthers, a former winner of the Hennessy Gold Cup Chase.

Kayf Tara is also the sire of the Grade 1-winning steeplechasers Special Tiara and Planet Of Sound.
