Bumper meeting for Kayf Tara

Two new black-type winners at Aintree’s Grand National Festival
6 April 2014

One of Kayf Tara’s two Grade 1 winners came at last year’s Grand National Festival when Special Tiara landed the Maghull Novices' Chase and this year’s Aintree meeting proved similarly successful with both black-type bumpers being won by his progeny.

The Listed mares’ bumper brought the curtain down on a colourful ladies’ day in Liverpool and three of the first four home in the 2m1f contest were daughters of Kayf Tara. Avispa took the honours, with Tara Mist just over a length back in third and dual winner The Govaness finishing fourth.

Twenty-four hours later, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Ballybolley posted a determined effort under the trainer’s son Sam to outgun Relic Rock in the Grade 2 Champion Bumper on Grand National day. Having been placed in two Irish point-to-points, the five-year-old’s switch to England has been a successful one as he is now unbeaten in three consecutive bumper runs.

With a winners-to-runners strike-rate of 33 per cent and progeny earnings closing in on £1 million, Kayf Tara has sired 72 winners of 109 races so far this season to give him his best ever tally.
