Kayf Tara’s Saturday double makes him a prize-money millionaire

Leading British National Hunt Sire passes million-pound mark for progeny earnings for the first time
20 April 2014

Britain’s Champion National Hunt sire Kayf Tara has been enjoying a bonanza season in 2013/14. Last month, he became the first British jumps sire to notch 100 wins in a season and now, for the first time, his progeny have earned prize-money in excess of £1 million.

A double on Saturday courtesy of the dependable No Planning, who recorded his fifth victory over fences when winning a valuable chase at Haydock, and rising young star Blaklion, earning his third consecutive win in the Haydock bumper, means that Kayf Tara’s prize-money tally now stands at £1,000,667 – and counting.

Seventy-seven individual winners this term have triumphed in 118 races to date, with a notable black-type double coming at Aintree’s Grand National meeting when Ballyboley won the Grade 2 Champion Bumper and Avispa won the previous day’s Listed mares’ bumper.

Kayf Tara, who has been Champion National Hunt sire in Britain four times, is also the sire of Grade 1 winners Special Tiara and Planet Of Sound, and the ever-pupular Hennessy Gold Cup winner Carruthers.
