Fifth TBA Award for Kayf Tara

Overbury stallion collects the Whitbread Silver Salver for leading British National Hunt Sire
9 July 2011

Simon Sweeting made what is becoming a regular appearance at the annual TBA Awards in Newmarket on Tuesday when collecting the Whitbred Silver Salver on behalf of Kayf Tara, the leading active British National Hunt stallion.

The dual Ascot Gold Cup hero has now headed the list of British-based jump sires for a fifth time in the last six years, with his progeny earnings for the 2013/14 season exceeding £1 million for the first time.

Among his best runners of the season were Grade 2 winners Mozoltov, Lieutenant Colonel, Kayf Moss and Ballybolley, who was successful in the Aintree bumper at the Grand National meeting.

In 2012/13 Kayf Tara dead-heated with Alflora for the Horse & Hound Cup, which is given to the stallion with the highest number of individual steeplechase winners. This time around, he had to yield to his old rival but not without a spirited battle. In the end, Alflora sired 19 chase winners to Kayf Tara’s 18.
