Katies Tuitor becomes Kayf Tara’s fifth NH Stakes winner 28/07/08

Whether winter or summer, Kayf Tara just keeps siring winners and the latest is Listed victor Katies Tuitor, who won the Summer Hurdle Handicap by four lengths on Market Rasen’s biggest day.

The five-year-old gelding has been a consistent performer right from the start, winning over a mile at two on only his second start for his breeder Brendan Duke, who trained him until the end of last season. It didn’t take long to show his prowess over hurdles, when winning a juvenile novices’ hurdle at Kempton by 20 lengths, swiftly followed up by victory at Sandown. These two performances saw him leap to prominence in the Triumph Hurdle betting market. Swerving Cheltenham, he ran fourth to the talented dual-purpose performer Punjabi in the G1 Ballymore Properties Champion 4-Y-O Hurdle at Punchestown last spring.

“I’m not a fan of the Triumph Hurdle and I trained him with a view to what’s happening now,” says Duke. “You’ll be hearing a lot about this horse as there’s plenty more to come from him. He went to the sales last November and I told Charlie Mann he was a real prospect. I’m delighted for him.”

Katies Tuitor has continued in fine form this spring, finishing a neck behind Buster Hyvonen at Fakenham first up before a two-length win at Cheltenham in April.

Out of the once-raced Millfontaine mare Penny Gold, Katies Tuitor is from Kayf Tara’s second crop. His dam has since died but his breeder also has two half-sisters to him, one of whom is being bred from and another, by Forzando, who is only three and yet to race.

“I hope to send Katies Tuitor’s half-sister to Kayf Tara next year. I used him initially as I thought he was a high-class racehorse and I felt that no stallion in the book had a stronger pedigree. He’s fantastic value,” says Duke.

Katies Tuitor joins Venalmar, Carruthers, Mad Max and Give It Time on the list of Kayf Tara’s National Hunt Stakes roll of honour, while Ruby Wine was his first ever Stakes winner, landing a Listed contest at Newbury on the flat as a three-year-old. Along with these talented performers are the equally promising young jumps prospects Earth Planet, Touch Of Irish and Sigma Digital, who have all been placed at Graded level. Kayf Tara also celebrated his first French winner recently when the four-year-old Quel Ballistic won a hurdle race at La Rochelle on the west coast.
