Kayf Tara double steals the show at Fairyhouse

Lieutenant Colonel leads the way with emotional win in the G1 Hatton's Grace

Gigginhouse duo Lieutenant Colonel and Identity Thief gave Kayf Tara a double at Fairyhouse on Sunday. Five-year-old Lieutenant Colonel was targeted at the G1 Hatton's Grace Hurdle over 2m4f by the late Dessie Hughes after winning a G2 on the track in April, and was giving Sandra Hughes her first G1 since taking over the licence earlier in the month. 'That is for Dad!' she said. A £46,000 purchase by Mags O'Toole at the Doncaster Spring Sales in 2012, he was bred by Mrs HIS Calzini, and will now be aimed at the World Hurdle at the Festival.

The double was brought up in the bumper by Identity Thief, a four-year-old bred by Cathal Ennis out of a Flemensfirth mare. A €40,000-purchase by Gordon Elliot at Tattersalls Ireland last summer, Identity Thief is trained by Henry de Bromhead and was winning on his debut.
