'Big, strong, correct' first foal for Dunaden

A Dunaden colt, who is delighting his breeder Derek Veitch, is the first to be sired by a Melbourne Cup winner standing in Britain since the 1890 hero Carbine.

Foaled at Ringfort Stud, Ireland, in the small hours on 26th January, the bay colt is the first foal of his mother, too – a three-time winning Authorized mare, La Tulipe, who is herself out of the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac third, Tulipe Royale. She was the first of 99 mares covered by Dunaden in 2015.

Veitch describes the colt as, 'A big first foal, very correct, well-boned and dark bay. He's strong and I'm delighted with him. He was conceived on Valentine's Day so I'm hoping the romance bears fruit on the track in due course.'

The colt is also the first potential qualifier for Sheikh Fahad's Dunaden Breeders' Club prizes, modelled on the French Primes system.
