Kayf Tara flying high with impressive strike-rate

Prize-money tally already close to last season's total with major festivals yet to come

Kayf Tara’s strike-rate for the season continues to improve, and now stands at 30 per cent winners to runners, with his 83 individual winners up to the end of February having landed 123 races between them.

Six-year-old mare Hope’s Wishes, who was bred by Edward Spurrier, has won three races this season, her most recent victory coming in the two-mile mares’ hurdle at Huntingdon on 25 February.

Another young mare to follow in Richard and Lizzie Kelvin-Hughes’s homebred Chocca Wocca, who has now won two of her three starts, including her hurdles debut on 21 February, and is entered for the G2 Trull House Stud Dawn Run Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Over the weekend, the consistent Arthur’s Oak added another fine victory to his impressive recent record when winning a two-mile handicap chase at Chepstow to gain his fourth victory of the season. Delgany Demon took the three-mile handicap hurdle at Southwell on Sunday for his owner-breeder C M Wilson, while The Cider Maker recorded back-to-back wins for Colin Tizzard when winning Plumpton’s three-mile handicap chase by nine lengths on Monday.

Kayf Tara is now third in the British and Irish jump sires’ table behind the late King’s Theatre and Presenting. With the major festivals yet to come, his tally of £1,427,555 in progeny earnings for 2015/16 is just shy of last year’s record of £1,506,905 for the whole season.
