First Group winner for Delegator

Three winners in a week for freshman sire led by Firth of Clyde Stakes heroine Delectation

Delegator’s good start to his second career was further enhanced on Saturday when he recorded his first stakes winner courtesy of the unbeaten Delectation, who was the impressive winner of the 3 Firth Of Clyde Stakes at Ayr.

Delectation, who won on debut over six furlongs at Thirsk, dwelt slightly as the stalls opened and was at the rear of the 12-strong field through the early stages of the race. Asked to quicken by Paul Mulrennan at the halfway stage, the filly made rapid headway and took a decisive lead within the final furlong to stretch clear of her rivals by two and three-quarter lengths at the post.

Trainer Brian Smart has indicated that he will supplement Delectation for the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes. Bred in Britain by Crossfields Bloodstock, she was sold to Jamie Lovett of Australian Bloodstock following her debut success with a view to racing in Australia later in her career.

There was further success for Delegator on Saturday when Graphite Storm recorded back-to-back wins in landing the seven-furlong Dubai Duty Free Nurery Handicap at Newbury.

Trained by Clive Cox for owner-breeder Olive Shaw, the colt also won at Windsor on 27 August and may now be out away for next year.

Appointed, one of the earliest winners for Delegator when striking at Ripon on 19 May, was back for another victory on 13 September over a mile at Carlisle. Bred by Lady Jennifer Green, the £15,000 yearling buy has finished in the first three for four or her five runs for trainer Tim Easterby.

Delegator now has six individual winners from 16 runners – a strike-rate of 38%.
