Century up for Kayf Tara

Britain’s champion jumps sire in cruise control

Kayf Tara started the new year in positive fashion, with Some Reign bringing up a century of victories for his sire this season when landing the bumper at Wetherby by five lengths under Graham Lee.

Bred in Ireland by Cleaboy Stud was a €27,000 Tattersalls Ireland purchase as a three-year-old and struck on his first outing under rules for Rose Dobbin having previously been placed in a point-to-point.

A day later, Kayf Tara notched another black-type victory when Lifeboat Mona added the Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Sandown to her previous Listed bumper success at Huntingdon in 2014.

The consistent seven-year-old was bred by Bryan and Sandra Mayoh and is trained by Paul Nicholls. She has now won six of her nine starts.

With Lifeboat Mona bringing Kayf Tara’s tally to 101 wins for the season, the seven-time British champion now has a 28% strike-rate with 70 individual winners and progeny earnings of £1.17 million.
