Dream Come True

Dan’s Dream wins the G3 Fred Darling Stakes to become the first Group winner for Cityscape

Dan’s Dream has a run in either the English or Irish 1,000 Guineas on her agenda after an impressive victory in the G3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Bred by Hunscote Stud and raced by a partnership which includes her breeders, the Mick Channon-trained filly won on her seasonal debut at Bath in March and has made eyecatching progression since then to win her Classic trial by a length and a quarter from Sheikh Hamdan’s Tajaanus, the winner last year of the G3 Sweet Solera Stakes.

“We've thought a lot of Dan's Dream for a long time and we know that she has the class to go back to six furlongs or up to a mile. It's up to the owners where we go and I hope it's to the Guineas,” said Channon at Newbury, and added that he’d been encouraged to send some mares to Cityscape after being impressed by the filly last year.

Dan’s Dream is the first foal of the Royal Applause mare Royal Ffanci and hails from the family of another Fred Darling winner, Penkenna Princess, a half-sister to the mare’s dam Mademoiselle Jones. The filly will need to be supplemented for the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas on 6 May but already holds an entry for the Irish version.

From just 26 starters to date, Cityscape has four black-type performers in Europe, including The Broghie Man, who runs in a Listed contest today (Sunday) at Navan, Freescape and Ballymount. He is also the sire of the G3-placed juvenile Licisca, a member of his first Argentinian crop.
