Kayf Tara doubly honoured at TBA Awards

British champion wins Whitbread Silver Salver for eight time and Horse & Hound Cup for fifth time

For the eighth time in nine years, Kayf Tara finished the National Hunt season as leading British-based sire with 87 winners of 123 races and £1,929,657 in progeny earnings.

This achievement has once again earned him the Whitbread Silver Salver, which was collected by Jo Brown at the annual TBA Awards in Newmarket on July 18.

This was not his only prize of the evening as for the fifth time, Kayf Tara won the Horse & Hound Cup for being the leading British-based sire by number of individual chase winners.

Among his leading representatives for the season which ended in April 2018 were the G1 Irish Gold Cup winner Edwulf and Identity Thief, who landed a Grade 1 prize at Aintree for his owner Michael O’Leary of Gigginstown House Stud, who also sponsored the race, the Ryanair Stayers’ Hurdle.

With the 2018/19 season still in its early stages, Kayf Tara is once again at the top of the table for British jumps sires, with 11 winners on the board to date. His young store horses have also been popular at the recent round of sales, fetching top prices of €250,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Deby Sale, €210,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale and £140,000 at the Goffs UK Spring Sale.
