A horse for all seasons 15/05/09 (2)

The admirable Kayf Aramis posted arguably his finest victory to date when routing his rivals by 13 lengths at York to win the Ripleycollection.com Stakes for the third time.

Since his last hit out on the flat, the Kayf Tara seven-year-old has won three times over hurdles for Grand National-winning trainer Venetia Williams, the last of these coming in the Listed Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival. He will remain in training throughout the summer with the Ascot Stakes and the Cesarewitch both possible targets.

Kayf Aramis, a member of his sire’s first crop, first won the staying handicap (formerly run at 2m4f, now reduced to 2m2f) at York’s May meeting in 2006 before a successful repeat bid the following year, both times for trainer John Spearing. He shares a fondness for the Knavesmire with his owner/breeder Isobel Phipps Coltman, who was at university at York, and he has also finished runner-up there to subsequent Ascot Stakes winner Missoula. In 49 starts on the flat and over jumps, Kayf Aramis’s redoubtable record stands at seven wins and 15 places with £105,071 in prize-money earned to date.
