Winners the world over 02/06/09

Bertolini made a fine start to the week with four winners in four different countries and in two hemispheres on Monday.

In Benalla, Victoria, three-year-old gelding Coppi landed a six-furlong maiden while across the Tasman, fellow NZ-bred Chinon was successful over the same distance at Foxton, also shedding her maiden tag.

A rare German-bred daughter of Bertolini, Vitessa, won on debut at Munich in a seven-furlong maiden. Out of the Rainbow Quest mare Vijanti, the three-year-old was bred by Andreas Jacobs and becomes her dam’s first winner. Vijanti, who is herself a daughter of South African champion three-year-old filly Kundalini, has subsequently been exported to South Africa.

In France, Irish-bred juvenile Tomillo extended Bertolini’s tally of two-year-old winners this season to five with his first-time-out win over six furlongs when beating the Aga Khan’s Kermiyan in a photo-finish. Bred by Mrs C Weld, he is the second foal and first winner for the Group One-placed Ivowen (Theatrical).
