Huygens upholds fine family record 07/07/09

The victory of Huygens at Folkestone on 26 June brought up the third winner for his first-crop sire Zafeen, who has also been successful with Zafeereli in France and first-time-out scorer Grand Zafeen.

Out of the five-furlong two-year-old winner Lindfield Belle, Huygens is a half-brother to G3 Prix Eclipse winner Domingues and to the Wokingham Stakes victor Baltic King. The two-year-old colt, who was bred by Robin and Scarlett Knipe of Cobhall Court Stud, made his debut over six furlongs at Bath on 5 June and clearly relished the extra furlong of his Folkestone assignment, running on strongly to win on his second start.

Huygens, who holds an entry for next year’s Derby, has been awarded a rating of 75 by the Racing Post, in which he was described as ‘a nice prospect’.

Along with his three winners, Zafeen has also sired five placed horses from 16 runners.
