ARDAD

Ardad is a dad: his first foal is a 'very strong' filly

The first foal by Kodiac's best ever Royal Ascot two-year-old, G2 winner Ardad, was born last night. She is a bay filly out of four-time winner and Stakes-performing juvenile Amitola, who is already the dam of two good winners.

Breeder Simon Sweeting described her as, 'A very strong foal, with a lovely shoulder and limbs. She's already showing a great attitude – and a huge appetite!'

Ardad and Jack Hobbs have first mares in foal

Overbury Stud's two new stallions – top-class two-year-old Ardad and Irish Derby hero Jack Hobbs – are away to a flying start in their stud careers with both having their very first mares scanned in foal on Wednesday.

Ardad's first mare was Combustible, a young, dual-winning Halling mare who is out of a half-sister to Rafha, dam of Invincible Spirit and Ardad's sire Kodiac. The resulting foal will be inbred 4x3 to Eljazzi. The property of Ed's Stud in Ireland, she was booked in by Stroud Coleman and walked in from Longview Stud. The Polish Precedent mare Pantita, owned by Howard Barton Stud, is the first to be covered by Jack Hobbs. The dam of four winners – two on the flat and two over jumps – she hails from an accomplished Boussac family.

It's all go at Overbury

Two new stallions, a superstar visit and weekend winners for Kayf Tara and Schiaparelli

It’s been a busy time at Overbury Stud. Not only have we welcomed our new stallions Ardad and Jack Hobbs, but we’ve also enjoyed a visit from their former jockey Frankie Dettori, who is also familiar with two of our old favourites, having won an Ascot Gold Cup on Kayf Tara and the G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club on Schiaparelli.

Kodiac's G2 son Ardad new to Overbury

Flying Childers winner was a breeze-up sales-topper and won the Windsor Castle in a faster time than Profitable's G1 King's Stand on the same day

Ardad, who memorably streaked more than three lengths clear in the Windsor Castle Stakes last year, has been retired. In a deal brokered by Blandford Bloodstock, the son of Kodiac who went on to defeat a top class field in the G2 Flying Childers Stakes will stand at Overbury Stud. His fee will be £6,500 Oct 1, SLF, with breeding rights available.
