Abunai’s High Chaparral juvenile fetches 800,000gns at Tattersalls.

Abunai, whose two-year-old High Chaparral colt sold for 800,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale setting a new European record, is to visit Overbury Stud’s first-season sire Cityscape.

The Pivotal mare, who is a half-sister to G1 winner Miss Keller, from the famous Hascombe family of Inchinor, was a three-time winner at two and was rated 100 by Timeform. She has recently foaled a colt by Cityscape’s half-brother Bated Breath. Her Authorized youngster of 2013, Black Blade, won the top juvenile race in Hungary and was ranked the Champion two-year-old colt of Slovakia; he is expected to be campaigned in Germany in 2014.

Abunai is owned by Jocelyn Targett, who says he bought her specifically to send to Cityscape: ‘Cityscape strongly resembles his sire Selkirk in both physique and aptitude, and Selkirk was notably successful with Nureyev line mares. In fact, of his 20 fastest and most precocious offspring, seven were out of mares by Nureyev, or Polar Falcon, or Pivotal. As a speedy juvenile from an excellent family, and as a particularly attractive mare, I thought Abunai might suit Cityscape down to the ground. It seems she also suits High Chaparral pretty well too.’
