Colt by Britain’s Champion jumps sire tops yearling session at £38,000. The top mare is in foal to him, too!

A yearling colt by Kayf Tara and consigned by Overbury Stud led the way at the DBS January Sale when selling to Brendan Bashford on behalf of Timmy Hyde for £38,000.

The late-May colt is a son of the unraced Molly Flight (Saint Cyrien), a sister to the Grade 1 Prix La Haye Jousselin Steeplechase winners Golden Flight and Sunny Flight.

Also taking a starring role on Wednesday was Best Mate’s half-sister Katmai, who topped the mares’ section after being sold in foal to Kayf Tara for £35,000 to Kieran Cotter. Two of the top three yearlings were by Kayf Tara, and all five top-priced broodmares were carrying to him.

There were also good returns in the yearling session for Poplar Stud, which sold a Kayf Tara colt out of Alina Rheinberg for £29,000 to Richard Frisby. The Newmarket agent also went to £20,000 for Goldford Stud’s AQPS colt out of the French-bred mare Jolika, while another Goldford offering, a colt out of Senorita Rumbelita’s half-sister Top Of The Dee went his way for £17,000.

As Dunaden’s first foals were reported on the ground, the dual Group 1 winner travelled to DBS to parade for breeders alongside Schiaparelli, both of whom were popular throughout the day. On Thursday, 4 February, Dunaden will have another outing, this time with our new stallion Mustajeeb, to take part in the TBA Stallion Parade at Tattersalls.
