Lyreen Lad strikes in Ireland and Schiaparannie becomes first bumper winner.

After Man From Mars got the ball rolling as Schiaparelli’s first winner over hurdles at Kempton earlier this month, another two winners have been added to the tally.

Lyreen Lad, bred by Howard Johnson, became his sire’s first Irish winner when winning a maiden hurdle at Tipperary for Tony Martin and the Lyreen Syndicate having been runner-up on his previous start.

On Tuesday, the Malcolm Jefferson-trained Schiaparannie got off the mark at the second attempt when sent off the warm favourite for the bumper at Hexham. The five-year-old mare, who won quite cosily by five lengths, was bred by RG and VJ Makin and is out of the multiple-winning Flemensfirth mare Annie’s Answer.
