Gewan, bred by Overbury Stallions Ltd and Dukes Stud, has been named as European Champion Juvenile for 2025 with a rating of 121.
The winner of the G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes in October, Gewan’s final mark was agreed by a panel of international handicappers who placed the Andrew Balding-trained colt ahead of two colts trained by Aidan O’Brien at Ballydoyle.
A graduate of Arqana’s Breeze-Up Sale, having originally been sold from the Overbury Stud draft at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Gewan followed up his maiden win at Newbury in July with an impressive defeat of the 112-rated Italy in the G3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York.
His defeat of Gstaad at Newmarket to end the season followed a sole defeat in the G2 Betfred Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and confirmed him as a leading Classic prospect for 2026.
Gstaad and Puerto Rico, each trained by O’Brien, were awarded a mark of 119, while stablemates Hawk Mountain is rated 116 and Action was given 115).
Gewan’s dam Grey Mystere is booked for a return visit to Darley’s champion sire Night Of Thunder this season.
