It has been a big week for breeder Rod Metcalfe and his Kayf Tara broodmare Tarabaloo, whose two daughters by Schiaparelli have each posted their first victories within three days of each other.

On Saturday, six-year-old Lulu Baloo won the novices’ handicap hurdle at Newcastle by six and a half lengths in the hands of Tom Midgley, and the jockey was also aboard five-year-old Betty Baloo, who won the Southwell bumper on her debut by four lengths from Kayf Tara filly Eavesdropping.

The sisters, both trained by Tim Easterby, are fourth-generation homebreds by Yorkshire-based Rod Metcalfe, who has been a stalwart supporter of Overbury Stud for many years. Tarabaloo, herself a treble winner over hurdles and fences, has visited Schiaparelli four times and also has a four-year-old gelding by him, as well as a three-year-old filly by Cityscape and yearling filly by Jack Hobbs.

We wish the Metcalfe family continued success with Tarabaloo and her offspring.
