Kayf Tara is Champion British National Hunt sire

Third title in four years for the 18-year-old son of Sadler's Wells 1 May 2012

Kayf Tara has been crowned Champion British National Hunt sire for the third time in four years and finished seventh overall of active sires in Britain and Ireland for the 2011/12 season.

Most encouragingly, Kayf Tara also boasts the highest strike rate of any living sire in the top 30 in either Britain or Ireland with 38 per cent winners to runners. His 55 winners this season from 146 runners include Carruthers, who led home his paternal half-brother and Grade 1 winner Planet Of Sound in the Hennessy Gold Cup, and the 151-rated Micheal Flips, successful twice this year over fences and runner-up in the Grade 1 Silly Isles Novices’ Chase.

Kayf Tara was also sire of two G1 performers at the recent Punchestown Festival, where Rathlin, already a Grade 2 winner, finished runner-up in the G1 Powers Gold Cup and Mozoltov added a third in the G1 Champion INH Flat Race to his two previous bumper victories.

Alfie Sherrin became Kayf Tara's second Cheltenham Festival winner after Kayf Aramis when landing the G3 JLT Specilaty Chase and Charlie Logsdon's Magnifique Etoile looks to be a star for the future following his hat-trick of victories and G1 place in the Tolworth Hurdle.

A dual Ascot Gold Cup and Irish St Leger winner, Kayf Tara has stood at Overbury Stud in Gloucesterhsie since his retirement from racing in 2001. His fee for 2012 is £4,000.
