Golden Horn’s daughter Santorini Star continued on her upward trajectory to make all when winning the G2 Park Hill Stakes on the opening day of Doncaster’s St Leger meeting.
Trained by William Haggas for Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, the consistent four-year-old stepped into group company for the first time with five previous wins to her name, including a last-start triumph over two miles at York.
Showing real gumption, she was quick to take up the running in a classy field of 11 runners and kept finding more under Tom Marquand when challenged on both sides to eventually win by a neck and pick up a cheque for £85,000.
Santorini Star, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Dreamloper, was bred by Olivia Hoare from the Teofilo mare Livia’s Dream and is a fifth-generation descendant of the Oaks winner Bireme. She becomes the 28th stakes winner on the Flat for Golden Horn.
Another of his daughters, Bosphorous Rose, is set to run at Doncaster on Friday in the British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap, and comes into the race on the back of four wins this season for Sir Mark Prescott, including at Thirsk on Saturday.
