Old Clayesmorian made the perfect start to his racing career by winning the bumper at Warwick on Thursday by two and a half lengths for owner-breeder Bridget Henley and trainer Ben Pauling.
The son of Jack Hobbs also maintained a winning streak for his dam Burgundy Betty (Presenting), who has now produced four winners from four runners with her first four foals, each of whom has won on debut. And, even better, they are all by Overbury stallions!
The mare’s first foal, Betty’s Belle, by Schiaparelli, got the ball rolling, also when winning a Warwick bumper. She was followed by Betty’s Tiara, a daughter of Kayf Tara, who struck at Stratford first time out, while Betty’s Daisy, a full-sister to Old Clayesmorian, took a shine to Warwick too when making her debut there in February.
Old Clayesmorian, who was bred by Bridget with her late husband Stuart, was born and raised at Overbury along with the rest of the clan. Also in the pipeline for the 15-year-old Burgundy Betty, who was herself bred by the much-missed duo of Robert Chugg and Lady ‘Chich’ Fowler, is a two-year-old gelding by Nathaniel and a yearling from a repeat visit to Jack Hobbs.
