The hugely consistent Ka Ying Star extended his tally of wins to six with victory in Sunday’s G3 Lion Rock Trophy at Sha Tin

The five-year-old is a member of the first-crop of Cityscape, whose statistics put him right up with the best of the young stallions. Among those who retired in his year or the year after, he is level with Camelot on 7.5% Group winners to runners at the top of the table – ahead of No Nay Never (6.9%), Kingman (5.2%), Australia (4.9%) and Sea The Moon (3.7%). It’s a little unfair to compare him with Night Of Thunder, whose first crop are only three, but Cityscape is ahead of him too (6.7%).

Ka Ying Star, who is now Cityscape’s biggest earner with more than £1.4 million in prize-money, has also won more than the best by any of those stallions (£1,352,732). Ka Ying Star’s Timeform rating, 123, is third to No Nay Never’s Ten Sovereigns (126) and Kingman’s Calyx (124) – but higher than anything by Camelot, Australia, Sea The Moon (Night Of Thunder’s highest-rated Group winner so far is on 104).

Bred in Britain by Emma Balding at Kingsclere Stud, Ka Young Star started his racing career as Urban Aspect, winning three of his four starts in the UK before being sold to Hong Kong and renamed.
