At a glittering ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel, Golden Horn’s top-rated son Trawlerman was named Cartier Stayer of the Year for 2025. It was a season in which Godolphin’s seven-year-old, trained by John and Thady Gosden, went from strength to strength, with four wins from his four runs in Britain.
After a warm-up appearance in the G2 Dubai Gold Cup, Trawlerman won the G3 Henry II Stakes by five lengths, followed by a seven-length victory over Illinois in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Two further wins came his way in the G2 Lonsdale Cup at York followed by his second victory in the Qipco Champions Long Distance Cup, which in 2025 had been upgraded to Group 1 status for the first time.
On a mark of 121, Trawlerman is the top-rated stayer in Europe, and the great news is that he will return to training in 2026.
His exploits cap another excellent year for Golden Horn on the Flat, with his leading runners this season including the G2 Park Hill Stakes winner Santorini Star and the Group 3-winning fillies Karmology, Lady Charlotte and Divina Grace.
Even better, for such a versatile stallion, there will be plenty to look forward to through this jumps season with last season’s Cheltenham Festival winners, the Champion Hurdler Golden Ace and Triumph Hurdle star Poniros, among Golden Horn’s offspring in action this winter.
