Golden Palace continued her rise through the ranks with her second win in as many starts in a competitive York novice on Saturday, earning her owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum a £20,000 GBB Bonus in the process.
From the first crop of Palace Pier, the Richard Fahey-trained filly is out of the Rio De La Plata mare Rioticism and is therefore a half-sister to the G2 Sapphire Stakes winner Ladies Church. Both fillies were bred by Overbury Stud with our great friends at Dukes Stud (photo above of Simon and Charlie courtesy of Tattersalls) and the partnership has been on quite a roll with two-year-old winners of late.
Gewan, trained by Andrew Balding for Al Rabban Racing was also a debut winner at Newbury on 18 July. The Night Of Thunder colt beat Godolphin’s $700,000 yearling Ruler Of Time over seven furlongs and is certainly one for the notebook. He is the second foal of the Listed-placed Grey Mystere (Lethal Force).
Havana Anna, by Havana Grey, is now in the care of Donnacha O’Brien is now a dual winner and won the Listed Irish EBF Marwell Stakes at Naas in impressive fashion, having been behind subsequent Royal Ascot winners Gstaad and True Love when third on her debut.
Havana Anna, owned by Gaynor Bloodstock, is a daughter of Miss Villefranche (Danehill Dancer) from a family which served the late John Pearce well for many years. She was sold by us as a foal for 42,000gns to Kelly Equine, while Golden Palace was a 175,000gns yearling purchase by Blandford Bloodstock, and Gewan was pinhooked by Longways Stables from our Book 2 draft for 100,000gns. As ever, we thank all buyers for their support of Overbury Stud and Dukes Stud, and wish the horses’ owners continued success.
Overbury Stud has a draft of three yearlings heading to the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, including fillies by our own Ardad and Caturra, and a colt by Victor Ludorum.
