Tadej became the seventh juvenile winner of the campaign for his sire Ardad with a resolute victory at York on Saturday for Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle.

Not only is this the trainer-and-jockey-team behind Bradsell but it was the same maiden won by the top sprinter en route to victory in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, where it is hoped Tadej will next emerge.

“It’s nice that Tadej is going to Royal Ascot with a win under his belt,” said Doyle. “He was unlucky on debut at Ascot when he was drawn on the wing and got just a bit lonely – he’d have won if he was drawn a bit better. He’s mentally quite immature but he knuckled down hard.

“He’s got plenty of ability beneath the bonnet and is still very unfurnished. The stiff six at Ascot will be perfect and he’s shown he can handle the big occasion. If he can take another step in the right direction, hopefully he’ll run well. We rate him very highly and is one of our nicer colts. As far as the early types go, he was always high on the list.”

The smartly-bred Tadej races for Jinky Farms and Partner and was bred by Star Cottage Stud and Mr N O’Keeffe from the Frankel mare Tilly Frankl, a daughter of the G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Ribbons. He is the latest two-year-old winner for his sire this year on a list which includes the dual winner Ardisia and recent Pontefract scorer Farough.

This group of seven juvenile winners through to the end of May is an even faster start to the season than that made by Ardad’s breakthrough first crop, which included the treble Group 1 winner and G2 Norfolk Stakes winner Perfect Power.
