Saturday double for Kayf Tara as Arthur’s Oak also obliges at Sandown.

Blaklion was runner-up to Seeyouatmidnight in in the G2 Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day but went one better when recording his third black-type victory in the G2 Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby on Saturday.

Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, the seven-year-old runs in the same successful colours as The New One for Sarah Such and C G Paleta and was bred by Mary Morrison from her Legend Of France mare Franciscaine.

Blaklion has a full set of National Hunt victories, having started his successful career as a winning point-to-pointer then gone on to win two bumpers, three hurdle races and now twice over fences following his triumph at Cheltenham in December.

The consistent gelding claimed two Grade 2 wins over hurdles in the Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow and Cheltenham’s Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle in December 2014. He now heads to the Cheltenham Festival with the G1 RSA Chase as his aim.

The Saturday double was completed by the game and likeable Arthur’s Oak, whose victory at Sandown in the two-mile handicap chase was his third of the season and fourth in his career to date.
