Sounding off

Planet of Sound made a stunning seasonal debut to record his first stakes victory in the G2 Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter. The seven-year-old son of Kayf Tara saw off a quality field, which included Twist Magic, Ashley Brook and Nacarat, to land the two-mile chase by three-and-a-half lengths from Cornas.

Owned and bred by CGM Lloyd-Baker, Planet Of Sound has been a highly consistent campaigner for the Philip Hobbs stable, winning five times over hurdles and fences and finishing in the money in all 13 of his starts to date, including third place in the G1 Arkle Chase at last season’s Cheltenham Festival.

He is the third Grade 2-winning chaser for Kayf Tara, who is also sire of Reyonoldstown Novices’ Chase winner Carruthers and Kornati Kid, who won the Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby in January. Among the stallion’s good hurdlers are Clan Tara, who also scored at Grade 2 level last season, and Cheltenham Festival hero Kayf Aramis.
