08/01/11 - Sagamix’s son Flat Out passes steeplechasing test with flair

Flat Out, a grey son of Sagamix, made a highly impressive seasonal debut on his first outing over fences when making all to win the Punchestown Hospitality Beginners’ Chase by 13 lengths on Saturday.

The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old has been a highly consistent performer since starting his racing career in May 2009. He is now the winner of two bumpers, two hurdle races and a steeplechase and he has been placed on three other occasions from just nine runs, including a runner-up slot to Blackstairmountain in the G1 Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown last April.

Flat Out, a son of the unraced Kendor mare Divine Rodney, holds an entry for the G1 Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown at the end of this month, for which he is now prominent in the betting at odds of 5/1.

Another Sagamix six-year-old, Zazamix, made his return to the racecourse at Sandown on Saturday and finished third in the 32Red Handicap Hurdle. The dual winner, out of the winning hurdler Ombre Bleue (Agent Bleu), has won a bumper and over hurdles for Nicky Henderson.
