Kayf Tara double at Newcastle

11/01/11 – Fentara lands mares’ novice hurdle and Zhakiera Spirit remains unbeaten after wide-margin victory

Two Kayf Tara mares proved themselves more than equal to the testing conditions at Gosforth Park on Tuesday when winning the first and last races on the card.

Fentara kicked off proceedings in style by staying on gamely in her first attempt at two-and-half miles. She landed the opening mares’ novice hurdle for her owner/breeder Mrs E Dixon.

The six-year-old is a daughter of Miss Fencote, who is a half-sister to recent Welsh National runner Our Benny. Fentara has run just five times and was placed on her bumper debut last March.

Bringing the curtain down on the day’s action was the very exciting prospect Zhakiera Spirit, who is a full-sister to Megastar, the runner-up in Saturday’s Tolworth Hurdle and a G2 bumper winner.

Now five, Zhakiera Spirit impressed on her first appearance on a racecourse in November when landing a competitive Wetherby bumper but she looked even more special on Tuesday, cruising home to a 34-length success for owner Graham Wylie.

Zhakiera Spirit was bred by Pleasure Palace Racing from the Karinga Bay mare Megalex, who has three winning offspring all by Kayf Tara
