Kayf Tara on top again

28/06/11 – Overbury stallion named leading British NH sire for second successive year

British thoroughbred breeding was celebrated in style on Monday evening at the annual TBA Awards at Tattersalls in Newmarket.

With the awards dinner now held in June as opposed to its old January date, this year saw two awards in each National Hunt category, honouring the achievements of both the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.

Kayf Tara was once again named leading active British-based National Hunt stallion (by earnings) for 2009/10, the second consecutive season that he has been awarded the prestigious Whitbread Silver Salver.

His leading performers during that season were G1 Punchestown Gold Cup winner Planet Of Sound and Mad Max, winner of the G2 Manifesto Novices’ Chase at Aintree.

The dams of these two star jumpers were each named NH Broodmare of the Year for the respective seasons at the TBA awards, with Planet Of Sound’s dam Herald The Dawn winning the prize for 2009/10 and Carole’s Crusader, the dam of Mad Max, for 2010/11.

Carole’s Crusader’s other black-type winner, Carole’s Legacy, who proved herself to be such a touch racemare last season, has recently been scanned in-foal to Kayf Tara.

We’d like to extend our warm congratulations to David and Kathleen Holmes at Pitchall Farm Stud, whose resident stallion Midnight Legend won the Whitbread Silver Salver in 2010/11, but we’re sure it won’t be long before Kayf Tara’s name is back on the trophy!
